This project has been brewing in my head for a while now. I made it a 2011 New Year’s resolution – to live in a state of gratitude. I have been keeping a gratitude journal. I have been trying to hold tightly to the good things in my life.
But thinking about gratitude in a new way started before that. I was inspired a year ago by my friend Steve. He wrote in his blog about Thanksgiving last November, “this day (meaning Thanksgiving) we in the U.S. set aside every November really is a reflection of whomever is celebrating it and what they choose to be thankful for at the present time. That’s the part I really like – the way it goes across cultures and religions. Every culture in some way values thankfulness, gratefulness, gratitude – or at least appreciation – of life. It’s something we can all agree on.” He really got me thinking about living in a constant state of gratitude.
Then, I was inspired again by my friend Patti. She gave herself a personal challenge – to find something beautiful everyday for 25 days. She took a picture and posted it on FaceBook. I loved the idea of seeing beyond myself.
What if I could do that – but make make it smaller?
Or in some ways – make it bigger?
It may not be a lot of words each day. It could just be one. It could be a picture. But for me this is a public way to say I am thankful. And I am full of many good things.
So join me as I record one thing each day in the month of November – my month of gratitude.
